Even though the Japanese anime industry has been producing more anime than ever, with its market size reaching more than ¥2,000,000,000,000 (roughly $18.8 billion), the environment surrounding animators remains severe. Low salaries, long working hours, and illegal contracting is still very common.

The Animator Dormitory Project is a crowdfunding project aimed at improving the lives of animators in Japan.

They provide housing so up-and-coming animators can focus on their work without desperately trying to make ends meet and offer a place where they can get technical support from experts.

Japanese animators have suffered from low wages, long work hours, and exploitative outsourcing contracts for decades. In recent years, increases in low quality animation have become a serious problem.

The New Anime Making System Project is aiming to make a new anime industry.

As a starting point for this project, they are beginning to plan out the development of an original anime studio that will be able to pay animators a fair salary (about 2 to 4 times the current industry standards) within the next 3 years.

Sakugabooru is a site dedicated to animation. They have an emphasis on Japanese anime but are also open to creators from around the world. For years they have collected 1000s of noteworthy pieces of animation in their database, trying to source them if possible.

Sakugabooru has a Patreon where you can support the development of this essential resource.
